It’s football time in Tennessee!! Thank you to the University of Tennessee’s mascot Smokey X and his handlers, the UT Cheer Squad, Mast General Store, Michele Lewellyn Photography, and everyone that came out to help support H.A.L.T.’s Fall Class! We had a great turnout and raised funds to go towards our new group of dogs. Always a fun day when Smokey’s in the building!
Here is an easy way for you to support HALT by doing what you already do! It’s time for the annual 2014-2015 enrollment in the Kroger Community Rewards Program. They’ve expanded the program and will be giving away $2.5 million to local organizations this year.
If you registered last year simply log in and click on “My Account” and choose HALT (organization 51944) under Community Rewards.
Not registered? Register your Kroger Plus card for Community Rewards (or get one at your local store if you don’t have one) and choose H.A.L.T (organization 51944). Every time you shop, Kroger will make a donation to the HALT program, and you’ll be helping these wonderful kids and rescue dogs that participate in the program.
We have some exciting news! Thanks to the generosity of the Cesar Millan Foundation, the HALT program has been awarded scholarships for two of our instructors to attend Cesar’s Fundamentals Training program next month. Our instructors will be able to bring back invaluable lessons and knowledge that will help us update and expand our training with the teens and dogs going through the program. 
We do need a little help. We are asking for your assistance to help offset travel expenses. Approximately $1,500 will help us achieve our fundraising goal for this amazing training experience.

Our fall session is here! We have chosen the dogs that will be in the class. They have been with our wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Shaw the last two weeks. He and his staff do such a great job and take amazing care of our dogs. They’ve all had their full medical exams, finished up their last vaccinations and any other needs, and are ready to start class.
Our first adoption event is this weekend, Sunday the 13th, and classes start Monday. See our Events page for more upcoming adoption events. Applications are now being accepted on the dogs for review by our adoption committee.

Proceeds rasied during the 2015 Walk and Wag event have allowed them to make this generous donation to support our kids in the program.
We also wish to thank Julie G and her Fall Festival crew for sponsoring Merry through this class. Julie sponsored Winnie in the spring class in memory of her long-time, four-legged friend, Char that she lost earlier in the year. To follow that, she and her friends did a fundraiser this fall and pooled their money together to help another dog in this class. Their generous donation will provide all the vet care, boarding, food and training supplies for Merry through the class.

Our spring session is here! The “Fab 5” are with our vet getting to know each other better, and getting all their vaccinations and medical care finished up. We are excited to get them to the kennel early April so we can start training with them and their new student trainers. Applications are now being accepted on all 5 dogs.
Classes will start Monday, April 13th. We do still need a couple of volunters in in Monday/Wednesday 1:30-2:30p class and our Tuesday/Thursday 6:30-7:30p class. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our Volunteer page to learn more.

It’s football time in Tennessee! Come to Mast General Store to meet the University of Tennessee Volunteers mascot Smokey X and the cheerleaders on Saturday, August 23rd.
Registration for photos start at 1pm, and Smokey will be there from 1:30pm-3pm. Photos will be provided by Mountain Mutt Media.
We will have goodie bags for the first 60 sign-ups that will include treats, coupons and gifts from Mast General, PetSafe and more. Smokey will have to leave at 3p, so be sure to get there early!
What a beautiful spring day we had for our spring reunion! It was a great day to kick off our 27th year. Thank you to all the graduates, volunteers, supporters friends and families that came out for the event. Our new group of dogs had a fun time meeting lots of new dogs and people, including some potential new families.
Daisy is a very happy little girl. She really had fun at the event and we’re working on a home visit with her potential new family. We learned the other day she does not like cats!
Eddie showed us that he can be very focused and a fast learner. He had some initial issues meeting new dogs, but he started learning manners from us very quickly. He will love an active family that can keep him busy.
Charlie is another happy guy. He can be very playful in addition to loving a lap to sit in. We had fun watching him bounce around while he was meeting new dogs. He is a pretty calm dog but will enjoy playtime as well.
Mocha is definitely our shy girl. She does great with other dogs and did very well with a lot of dogs around. She is quite shy with people right now so we’ll focus on having her around lots of people over the next few weeks. She will benefit from a dog-savvy family that can include her in lots of activities to continue building her confidence and trust.
Lucky also met a potential new family. Their current dog and Lucky look like brothers! He is another fast learner that loves to play and spend time with others. He will be best suited for a home with another dog and a family that can keep him included in their daily activities.
We are excited to start classes Monday and see how our dogs grow over the next four weeks with their teen trainers!
