Fall 2023 Class Session Graduation

By | News, Photo Gallery | No Comments

What a great class this session! The dogs were wonderful, the kids learned a lot, and our volunteers are always the best! The dogs were doing so well with their training that the kids added in some fun tricks as well. We had some learning to Shake or High Five, some learning the belly crawl, and some rollover!

Both Asha and Jazzie have been adopted since graduation and are settling in nicely with their new families. We are looking for the right match for Barbie, Ken, and Midge. You can Contact us to set up a meeting or check out our Facebook page to see where they’ll be visiting on the weekends.

If you are looking for a new four-legged friend, we are accepting Applications at this time for the current class. We will be reviewing applications and conducting home visits while classes are in progress.

If you are interested in volunteering, check out our Volunteer page to learn more.

We have chosen the “Fab Five” for the fall session, and they had their photo shoot earlier this week! We partnered with Young-Williams Animal Center this session.

This session, you’ll see a fun naming theme from the very popular new Barbie movie. We have Barbie, Ken, Midge, Asha, and Jazzie.

They completed their stay with our vet, Dr. John Shaw at Ideal Veterinary Hospital getting the last of their medical needs taken care of. They have moved to PetSafe Village to get ready for classes that start on Monday, September 11th. Classes last for four weeks, and they’ll be ready to go to their forever homes on Friday, October 6th.

Our first adoption event is Sunday, September 10th at Meadow View Garden Center. If you are looking for a new four-legged friend, we are accepting Applications at this time for the current class. We will be reviewing applications and conducting home visits while classes are in progress.

Fall 2022 – Happy 35th Anniversary!

By | News

Wow! Milestone year for HALT. This class celebrates its 35th anniversary!! We can’t thank all of you enough for your support. In case you’re unaware, HALT depends solely on supporters just like you. Our program is 100% volunteers, and its activities are privately funded through donations, adoption fees, and sponsorships. Each person involved with HALT donates their time and resources, including our Board Members, class instructors, class training assistants, and everyone else participating in dog adoption and fundraising events.

Our volunteers help with everything from working with local shelters for dog selection, securing agencies to have kids for classes, securing volunteers to help with classes, teaching classes, helping with adoption events, helping with fundraising events, helping with social media and more. We also are very thankful for  all of our donors and supporters that contribute to the financial needs of HALT. Without all of these people our program would not be possible.

We have been working with local shelters like Young-Williams, Sevier County Animal Center, and Oak Ridge Animal Shelter recently to select dogs for the fall class. They’ll visit our partners at Ideal Veterinary for their full checkups and medical screenings before moving to PetSafe where we’ll start training in early September.

Look for some sneak peek photos on our Facebook and Instagram until the official photos are ready.

Classes start Sept 12th and graduations complete October 6th. All dogs will be ready to go to their new homes on Friday October  7th.

Update on Spring 2022 Class

By | Fundraiser, News, Photo Gallery

We are happy to share that Tino, Livvie, Millie, Marigold and Franklin have all been adopted! They graduated May 5th, and most went to their new homes within a couple of days. We have heard great things about them settling in and seeing cute pictures.

It took us a little longer to find the right fit for Franklin. We always want to be sure that once they graduate they find their forever home (as best we can) as we don’t want them to be bounced back. We were patient, and his perfect fit found him. He’s making himself at home and loving life. Thanks to all of you that spent the extra time sharing his posts and information to help make that happen.

We had a great session with several new fundraising events to help support the program. We had movie night hosted by our friends at Central Cinema,  a raffle with items donated by Elst Brewery, Mast General Store, K9 Center of East TN, The Bark, and Central Cinema plus fundraiser hosted by Elst Brewery and Steamboat Subs, and a local garden club plant sale.

All of these businesses donated a portion of sales during the event/day to H.A.L.T. We greatly appreciate these businesses for their support and those that came out to support HALT at these businesses!! We look forward to partnering with these and other local businesses in the future.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, sponsors and supporters for helping us do what we love and helping to make a difference in the lives of these kids and dogs in the program.

Happy Friday to everyone! Tomorrow is a BIG DAY, as we have our next dog adoption event! We’ll be at Elst Brewing Company on Central Ave. and handsome HALT dog Franklin will be with us from 1-3pm!

In addition to the fun atmosphere, several generous community partners have donated some fun items for us to raffle and raise funds for our program! Special thanks to Elst Brewing Company, Steamboat on Central, Central Cinema, The Bark, K9 Center of East Tennessee, and Mast General Store (Knoxville) who’ve put together some great people items & dog-related goodies! We hope you’ll come out and experience the 4 ‘Fs’ with us: Franklin, Food, Fresh air & Fun!

If you or someone you know is looking to add a fun, people-loving pup to their family, we’re accepting adoption applications for Franklin! He is looking for his forever home to go to after his basic obedience classes finish up on April 28!! Apply here then come out and meet Mr. Franklin: https://www.haltdogs.org/adopt-a-halt-dog/

See you tomorrow!

Tino – Spring 2022

By | News, Photo Gallery | No Comments

ADOPTED!

Tino is a true gentleman. Don’t be fooled by his bat-like ears, he’s 100% dog! He’s around 32 lbs, 2 years old, and a black & tan beagle-mix. Tino is friendly, playful, and has a very sweet temperament. Tino would tell you that even though he might slightly resemble the caped crusader, he thinks Captain America’s shield is pretty cool!

Tino came to HALT through our friends at Oak Ridge Animal Shelter where sadly, he was owner-surrendered due to his family moving and they could not bring him along. But, Tino’s luck has turned around, and HALT is so excited to be a part of his journey!

We’re now taking adoption applications for this precious, friendly pup, who is 100% deserving of a loving family. HALT classes start April 4, and conclude April 28, and then he will be ready to go to his furever home! Apply to adopt Tino on our website and stay tuned to our Facebook page for more details as we learn more about this fun girl.

All breeds and ages are the best guess from the shelter, our Dog Selection Committee, and Veterinarian.

Milly – Spring 2022

By | News, Photo Gallery | No Comments

ADOPTED!

Milly was found as a stray by our partners at Young-Williams Animal Center. She weighs 22lbs, is around 1 yr old, and a hound mix. You can see from her photos that Milly’s fur is a beautiful mix of all the best cocoa flavors – mocha, chocolate, and caramel, and she has a pair soulful caramel eyes to match. I think, if she were a hot chocolate flavor at a coffee shop, she’d be a top seller!

Milly is young, and her high energy comes along with some serious laughs (see photographic evidence of her goofiness). Give her a tennis ball or squeaky toy, and she’s content.

We’re now taking adoption applications for this precious, friendly girl. HALT classes start April 4, and conclude April 28, and then she will be ready to go to her furever home! Apply to adopt Milly on our website and stay tuned to our Facebook page for more details as we learn more about this fun girl.

Marigold – Spring 2022

By | News, Photo Gallery | No Comments

ADOPTED!

They called her “Gorgeous Girl” at Young-Williams, (100% accurate), but with her flowery personality, we’ve decided to rename her Marigold! Today, we want everyone to meet Marigold, the third dog participating in HALT’s classes this spring!

Marigold was found as a stray and weighs in at 55lbs. She’s among the biggest dogs to participate in our program – but don’t hold it against her, there’s just more of her to love! Marigold is around 2-3 years old and a collie mix. The animal experts on our dog selection committee believe the “mix” to be Labrador or Pyrenees. What do y’all think?

Marigold comes equipped with a caramel brown and white medium-length fur coat. She’s bonkers for a squeaky toy and LOVES a good tennis ball (see photos)! While she lights up at the sound of a toy, Marigold is rather calm and sweet (dare I say, a perfect HALT dog?). Aside from being a ray of sunshine, she’s simply a happy dog radiating calm energy.

We’re now taking adoption applications for Marigold. HALT classes start April 4, and conclude April 28, and then she will be ready to go to her furever home! Apply to adopt Marigold on our website and stay tuned to our Facebook page for more details as we learn more about this fun girl.

All breeds and ages are the best guess from the shelter, our Dog Selection Committee, and Veterinarian.
